Dieselec Generators

Dieselec Thistle is a leading independent specialist diesel generator company and the largest UK F G Wilson dealer. The business sells, installs, commissions and maintains diesel generators which are primarily used to provide back-up power. It is one of the leading players in the standby power market with particular expertise in delivering value engineered solutions for large, high-voltage, back-up power projects.

We supported Managing Director, Paul Moore, to buy the business in September 2010. We then initiated and delivered the acquisition of its main competitor, Thistle Generators, in December of the same year. Since our investment, the business has grown from 12 employees to more than 50 and has trebled turnover and quadrupled profit.

Clyde Space

Deal Type – Development Capital
Deal date – December 2010

Clyde Space is a leading supplier of small and micro spacecraft systems specialising in high performance power subsystems, DC-DC converters, Lithium Polymer Batteries and high efficiency solar panels. It has developed its own Cubesat platform and in 2013 this platform was launched in partnership with the UK Space Agency as the UK’s first Cubesat.

James Ramsay Ltd

Established in 1920, James Ramsay (Glasgow) Ltd is an industrial heating and pipework specialist. The Company installs, maintains, services and repairs all types of industrial and commercial boilers, burners and pipework across Scotland. We supported Managing Director, Raymond Shepherd, in a buy-out in 2013.

Astec Precision Ltd
Deal Type – Investment
Deal date – July 2015

Founded in 1998, Astec Precision Ltd is a specialist sub-contract manufacturer of small turned components primarily for the aerospace, electronics and oil and gas sectors. With its global customer base, Astec specialise in complex components using exotic alloys required for high temperatures and hazardous environments. In July 2015, we completed a deal investing in the Cumbria based business along with owner Peter Smith.
